Wednesday

Wednesday fortunes

The day you can see both directions.

Wednesday is the only day of the week that is genuinely about position. Stand in the middle of the week and you can see the start behind you and the end in front, which is a vantage point none of the other days offer.

Old English called it Wōden's day, after the god who traded an eye for wisdom — a fittingly odd origin for the day we most associate with perspective. The readings collected here take that seriously. They are about clarity rather than momentum: stillness handing you an answer you have been chasing, footing that is surer than it feels, the recognition that you are further along than your own account of it suggests.

Midweek is also when the week's original plan meets its first honest audit. Some of what was set out on Monday is clearly not going to happen. Wednesday is the day to notice that without treating it as failure — which is why so many of these readings are permissions rather than instructions.

The Wednesday readings

These are the distinct readings written for Wednesday. The oracle varies the opening phrase and the closing line when it draws one, so the version you are given may be worded a little differently from the version here.
